Change The Brake Light Bulb on a Chevrolet HHR

This article is visible to only you.

A quick and easy guide to changing the brake light bulb on a Chevy HHR.

An easy indication of a brake light out (other than being told by a fellow driver) is the turn signal will blink at a much faster rate than normal on the side that the bulb is burnt out.

Bulb Removal

1

Lift the tailgate and there are access panels on either side of the cargo area to access the bulb sockets.

2

Using a flathead screwdriver, apply pressure to the panel to release and remove it.

3

With the panel removed, you will now have easy access to the bulb sockets for both the brake and reverse lights. Reach your hand in and grab the socket and give it a counter clockwise turn to remove it from the light housing. You should have enough wire length to pull the entire socket out from the panel.

Bulb Install

4

Remove burnt bulb (pulling straight out) and replace with new bulb.

5

With the new bulb installed, replace the socket back into the back of the housing. You will see 3 tabs on the socket that will help align it into the housing.

6

With the socket in the sitting flush in the housing, give it a clockwise turn to lock it back into place.

7

Reinstall the access panel by aligning the clips on the backside and giving the panel a gentle push to "pop" it back into place.
