Change The Headlight Bulb on a Nissan Altima
A quick and easy guide to change the headlight bulbs in your 2002-2006 Nissan Altima.
- Ratchet Wrench
- 10mm socket
- Low Beam - Sylvannia H11XV-2
- High Beam - Sylvannia H9
Driver Side Bulb
Begin by lifting your hood and securing it open with the hood prop. Performing this job is best done with a cooled engine as to not accidentally touch any hot parts.
There are two clamps that hold the air box together. Loosen the clamps and then remove the air filter. You can now remove the air box out of the engine bay.
With the air box removed, you should now be able to access the rear of the headlight assembly. Pull back on the rubber gasket and remove the wiring harness by turning counterclockwise.
Release the retaining spring and unplug the electrical connector. You can now remove the old bulb from the socket.
Without touching the glass of the new bulb, carefully reinsert it into the socket. Then reattach the electrical connector and replace the retaining spring.
Reinstall the wire harness with the bulb back into the headlight assembly by turning it clockwise.
Test the bulb by turning on your headlights to ensure that it is working. Replace air filter and air box back into the car.
Passenger Side Bulb
Using a 10mm socket, Remove the two bolts that hold down the radiator overflow container. Once the bolts are removed, pull the container up and out.
With the bracket removed, you will see a large round cover. To remove it, turn the wheel to the left.
You should now be able to access the rear of the headlight assembly. Pull back on the rubber gasket and remove the wiring harness by turning counterclockwise.
Release the retaining spring and unplug the electrical connector. You can now remove the old bulb from the socket.
Without touching the glass of the new bulb, carefully reinsert it into the socket. Then reattach the electrical connector and replace the retaining spring.
Reinstall the wire harness with the bulb back into the headlight assembly by turning it clockwise.
Test the bulb by turning on your headlights to ensure that it is working. Replace cover, fender bracket, and radiator overflow container.
