Change The Engine Air Filter on a 2012-2017 Toyota Avalon

This article is visible to only you.

The engine air filter is a very easy maintenance item you can do yourself in a few minutes. The Toyota Avalon shares the 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 engine with a ton of other vehicles, so the parts are easy to come by and fortunately they engineered them so you need absolutely no tools to change.

Toyota recommends you inspect the air filter at every 5000 mile maintenance interval to see if it needs replacing.

Open the Hood

1

Pop the hood using the lever under the dash.

Just like all other cars, there is a secondary latch at the front center of the hood. You need to press the lever to the side, and open the hood.

2

Locate the air filter box at the right of the engine bay.

3

Unclip the 2 metal clips on the outer edge of the box.

4

Lift the top away from the bottom just enough to get the air filter out.

6

Clean out leaves and debris that may have collected in the intake box

7

Install a new air filter

8

Close the air filter box. There are 2 passive tabs on the left side that you need to match up first. Then line up the box lid, and snap the 2 clips on the other side shut.
