Replace The Battery on a 2012-2017 Toyota Avalon

The battery on the Toyota Avalon is easy to access and replace. If you're looking to replace or upgrade your battery, our guide will show you what's involved, what parts, and what tools you'll need.

  • 10mm wrench or socket

Open the Hood

Pop the hood using the lever under the dash.

Just like all other cars, there is a secondary latch at the front center of the hood. You need to press the lever to the side, and open the hood.

Locate the battery at the front right of the engine bay.

Remove the Battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable first. Read why here.

In our case, the negative is on the right side of the battery.

Using a 10mm socket, loosen the small nut on the negative post and disconnect it from the battery.

Then using the same 10mm wrench, remove the positive cables.

Now Remove the battery tie down strap by removing the 2 x 10mm nuts.

Now remove the battery from the engine bay. Keep in mind that batteries are super heavy.

Install a new Battery

Drop a new battery in.

Install the battery hold down strap.

Install the positive terminal cable.

Install the negative terminal cable.
