Change The Cabin Air Filter on a 2012-present Toyota Avalon

This article is visible to only you.

Learn how to change a 2012-Present Toyota Avalon cabin air filter. The manufacturer's schedule says to inspect and replace it every maintenance interval. Fortunately the Avalon's filter is one of the easiest I've seen to change, it'll only take a few minutes of your time.

It's possible for the air filter to get clogged and reduce air flow through the vents. If you're having this problem, you might as well check the filter because it's a very simple job.

Remove the Old Filter

1

Open the glove box and remove all your stuff.

2

Remove the little shelf.

Pull upwards on the left side to free it from the box, then pull it away from the side wall to remove the other tabs.

3

Remove the rear glove box cover.

Press the little tab in and pull the cover out.

4

Remove the cabin air filter cover.

Press the little plastic tabs on each end and pull the cover out of the glove box.

5

Pull the filter out.

For some reason, the one pictured in our car had the "UP" arrow pointing down, which I believe is incorrect.

Install New Cabin Air Filter

6

Install your new filter.

Air flows from the top to the bottom on these. If you get an OEM filter, they will have an arrow with the work "UP" on them. Install them so that it points upward.

If you get an aftermarket filter with an arrow that shows you "Air Flow" direction, point those down.

7

Install the cabin filter cover

8

Install the glove box rear cover.

9

Install the glove box shelf
