Learn how to replace reverse light bulbs on your 2012+ Toyota Avalon. This howto includes all the correct tools and the part numbers you need.
Open the Trunk
Pop the trunk open.
Remove the trunk carpeting.
There are 13 push clips around the outer edges holding it in.
Each clip can be unlocked by simply using a flat head screw driver to pop the center out.
Then pull the entire clip out, and keep them together in a pile.
You can access the license plate bulbs, reverse camera, and reverse bulbs from here.
Remove the Bulb
The reverse bulbs are located at the outer edges of the trunk.
Simply rotate the bulb housing out and pull the bulb out.
Install the New Bulb
Insert the new bulb into the housing.
Clean your finger print oil off the bulb glass to help it last longer. The oils from your skin can contribute to hot spots on them and burn out prematurely.
Reinsert the housing and twist to lock it in place
Turn on the lights to test your new bulb. If the new bulb is a drastically different color or brightness, you may wish to replace the other side the same time.
Install the carpeting and all 13 push rivets.
