Changing The Brake Light on a Chrysler PT Cruiser
Brake lights are an easy replacement that can be done in under 15 minutes. The cost for this repair should be under $6.00 (depending on how many bulbs you are replacing.)
Checking if your brake light is out
Diagnosing this issue is fairly simple. Turn on the lights for the car and see if the brake lights come on. If you have the keyless entry keyfob, press the lock button.
This will cause all of the brake lights to flash once.
If one of the brake lights does not turn on, then it might be time to replace the bulb.
Remove the tail light
At the bottom of the tail light is a large flat head screw.
Using a flat head screwdriver, turn the screw until it comes out. Hold onto it for later.
Now gently pull on the taillight until it pops off.
Removing the lightbulb
Gently twist and pull on the brake light bulb jack. It should pop out if turned all the way.
Pull outward on the bulb until it pops out of the outlet. Be careful of broken glass if your bulb has broken like mine did.
Installing the new brake lightbulb
Take your new lightbulb and push it into the outlet until you hear it click in...
Now twist the light bulb jack back into the tail light.
Put the taillight back into the car.
Reinstall the screw and make sure to tighten it.
You are now done installing a new brake light. Turn on your lights and test to make sure the lights are on.
