Change The Wiper Blades on a 2009-2013 Subaru Forester
Learn how to install the new Bosch Icon wiper blades on any 2009-2013 Subaru Forester (Third Generation). Most cars seem to use this same hook type of mount, but it's worth noting there are 3 different wiper mount types:
- *Hook (used on the Forester) * - a curved, u shaped hook
- Side Pin - a small pin on the wiper arm snaps into a hole on the wiper blade attachment
- Bayonet - a flat, square piece of metal slides into the wiper blade attachment
I personally like these beam style of blades like the Bosch Icon because they have to be pretty reliable, simple, and light-weight. As it turns out they're fantastic for ice and snow because ice can cram up in the mechanisms used on the traditional style blades.
It seems that just about every manufacturer seems to be switching to these too, I see them on Fiesta ST's and Lamborghinis.
- Bosch Icon 24A Wiper Blade - Driver's Side
- Bosh Icon 18B Wiper Blade - Passenger Side
- TRICO 14-B - Traditional style Rear Wiper
- Optional RainX Glass Treatment - I find I barely need to use my wipers with it
Remove Old Windshield Wiper Blades
Flip the wiper blade up away from the glass.
It should just swing up and stay in place, but be sure it doesn't slap back down against the windshield.
The wiper blades are held in place by a small plastic clip located at the center hinge.
Squeeze the plastic clip and wiggle & slide the blade down, away from the hook.
Install New Windshield Wiper Blades
The new Bosch wiper blades have a hinged clip that opens up for installation.
Just grip it with your fingers and pull the clip open.
Slide the hook of the wiper blade into the open hinge and around the center mounting point in the wiper blade.
Last step - snap the wiper blade retainer clip shut and gently return the wiper blade to it's normal position against the glass.
