Install Bosch Icon Wiper Blades on a Scion FR-S & Subaru BRZ
These instructions show how to install Bosch Icon wiper blades on a Scion FR-S. Most Toyota cars I looked up use this same hook type of mount, but it's worth noting there are 3 different wiper mount types:
- Hook - a curved, u shaped hook
- Side Pin - a small pin on the wiper arm snaps into a hole on the wiper blade attachment
- Bayonet - a flat, square piece of metal slides into the wiper blade attachment
I personally like these beam style of blades like the Bosch Icon because they seem to be pretty reliable, simple, and light-weight. As it turns out they're fantastic for ice and snow because ice can cram up in the mechanisms used on the traditional style blades. It seems that just about every exotic manufacturer seems to go with this same style too.
- Flat blade screw driver
- Driver Side Wiper Blade 22" Bosch Icon 22A, Rain-X 5079279-1, Valeo 900221B
- Passenger Side Wiper Blade 20" Bosch Icon 20A, Rain-X 5079277-1, Valeo 900201B
Remove the Old Wiper Blade
On the stock wiper blades, flip up the plastic retainer clip up by prying it up with a flat head.
You may want to protect the wiper blade itself from your screw driver so that you don't chip paint of the arm itself.
Remove hook style wiper blades used on the FR-S by sliding the blade itself down toward the windshield.
They are usually tight and require some wiggling and pressure to get them to slide down. The hook end will proturde out pressing the rubber blade out a bit as pictured, so keep the blade rotated at an angle where it can push out as shown.
Install the new Beam Style Wiper Blade
Slip the hook end around the mount on the wiper blade. You may need to use your second hand to align the guide.
