Change The Tail Light Bulbs on a 2000-2007 Toyota Highlander

Learn to change the brake light, tail light, rear blinker, and reverse light bulbs on your 00-07 Toyota Highlander. The Highlander has a pretty neat tail light assembly that only uses one connector, which makes changing the bulbs really easy!

Remove the Old Bulb

Open the rear hatch and locate the removabe trim panel.

Remove the trim by pressing the 2 little tabs.

Locate the bulb you wish to change.

Twist the bulb out by turning it about 1/4 turn counter-clock-wise.

Below is the top brake light, it has no electrical connector. Instead, it's power is transferred through brake light assembly to the contacts on the base of the bulb.

Remove the bulb from the plastic base by sliding it out.

Slide the new bulb into the plastic base.

Insert the new bulb and base back into the tail light. Turn clockwise to lock into position.

Test the new bulb and celebrate.
