Install The Grimm Speed Strut Tower Brace on a Scion FR-S
A strut tower brace ties the two sides of your car together to increase rigidity and improve handling characteristics. The FR-S/BRZ/GT86 already has two braces going from the strut towers to the firewall, but adding a third going straight across completes the triforce of power!
This tutorial was made specifically for the GrimmSpeed strut tower brace, but it will apply to most other brands.
Time to complete: about 10 minutes.
All the parts you need are provided in the GrimmSpeed Strut Tower Brace Kit:
- Strut Tower Brace
- Mesh Sleeve
- Two Zip Ties
Using the 12mm socket and wrench, remove the two nuts that hold down the existing bars on each of the strut towers.
Installing the Brace
Lower the strut brace onto the four bolts you removed the nuts from earlier. It can only go on one way, so make sure the GrimmSpeed logo is on the passenger side of the car.
Notice that the strut brace sits on top of the air conditioner line. Don't worry about it for now; we will fix this in the next section.
Use the torque wrench and the 12mm socket to tighten the nuts. Follow the instructions for your torque wrench so that you know when to stop tightening.
Securing the Air Conditioner Line
Wrap the mesh sleeve around the line. It does not need to line up with the brace, it needs to line up with where your zip tie will go later.
Remember to periodically check everything to make sure the nuts are torqued properly and the A/C line is safely secured.
